About CamTAD Hearing Support Group Coffee Mornings

We are very grateful to the National Lottery for giving us the opportunity to pilot a number of new sessions which are intended as a more social support network around hearing loss. This will include a move to new venues that are more hearing aid friendly, with comfortable lounges, kitchen facilities so we can provide refreshments. These are open to anyone affected by hearing loss, whether you wear NHS hearing aids, Private hearing aids or none at all.

There will still be a clinic facility for those needing help with their hearing aids but the emphasis will be on giving advice to help you manage your hearing loss.

About CamTAD’s clinics

We are still be able to service hearing aids issued by Derby Hospitals but 70% of patients have now been referred to NHS hearing aid providers on the High Street (Specsavers, Scrivens, The Outside Clinic and Mediscan). Due to the way these providers are funded we cannot replace the tubing on their aids or give batteries as it affects their ability to charge the NHS for the work.

However, our staff and volunteers can support you with the care of your hearing aids in the following ways:

For people with aids from Derby Hospitals For people with other NHS hearing aids
We can replace the tubing We can show you how to replace the tubing or make an appointment with your provider
We can give batteries We can order batteries from your provider to be sent by post

The following services will be available to all:
We can clean the hearing aid
We can diagnose minor faults
We can help make appointments with your NHS provider for hearing test/repair/service
We can liaise with your provider if you are having any problems
We can support you to understand their hearing aids, how they work, how to change batteries, how to keep them clean etc
If you have had a letter telling you that you should register with a new provider then we can advise and help make appointments.
